Home Field Disadvantage?

Now I understand...it's my fault that the Phillies are 1-5. Wow, who would have thought it...after all, I didn't swing at a single pitch or make any plays in the field but somehow I am to blame.

What other way can I look at it after reading the article in today's Daily News that said the Phillies are happy to be leaving home for a while. Apparently the players are trying "too hard" according to manager Charlie Manuel. Bobby Abreu said "going on the road right now is going to be good for us."

Remember the good old days, when teams actually wanted to play at home in front of the faithful. And don't give me the old, "but they boo us" sob story. I was there on Monday for the opener and the crowd was pumped. It was not our fault that the team was down 10-0 before I could finish an order of crab fries. Blame Jon Lieber, blame Manuel's decision to walk Edmonds to pitch to Rolen, blame the quiet bats until it was too late. Whatever, but don't blame the more than 40,000 people, many of whom took the day off of work or school to be there.

I was there on Thursday when the sparse crowd was into it, cheering Jimmy Rollins, trying to urge him on to 39.

So give me a break about the road being good for this team. This team, Abreu especially, is full of excuses. Win the games on the schedule and stop making excuses.
