Does It Make Me a Bad Person?

A Big 5 team in the Elite Eight. A no-brainer, right, got to root for the home team? Wrong. Not when the "home" team is Villanova and I bleed crimson and gray.

So I rooted hard for Boston College on Friday (bummer) and Florida on Sunday (sweet). I know this doesn't change the fact that St. Joe's didn't make the NCAA and lost in the NIT. But I have to say, I still felt good in the closing minutes of the Florida game.

Is it petty? Sure. Is it real? Absolutely. For some reasons, perhaps genetic, perhaps brain washing, I cannot root for Villanova, even when I like their coach and their players.

A part of me wanted to be sure that they didn't go further than St. Joe's did two years ago, but in all liklihood, their success didn't change how people remember those Hawks.

As for pools, I do still have two of the Final Four participants (UCLA and Florida), though I have them both losing in the semis. An LSU-George Mason championship game would be good for me (though I can't believe CBS wants that). And how about George Mason? Has there been a retraction from Billy Packer or any of the other "experts" who could not believe that Mason was in?

By the way, Yannick Noah's kid played pretty well yesterday. He looks athletic and tough. Can't believe his father is a French tennis player!
